Street Pastors sing carols to Norwich clubbers
DEC 2007: Carols rang out in late-night Norwich on Saturday night as 18 Street Pastors were joined by passing revellers to add some Christmas cheer to the clubland scene.
The singing session, very late on December 22, was prompted by the suggestion of doorman Gary MacDonald from Norwich private karaoke club Sing Sing on Prince of Wales road.
Led by Val Dodsworth, project co-ordinator of the Christian charity, the Street Pastors gathered outside several Norwich night-clubs to regale passers-by with everything from Silent Night to O Come All Ye Faithful.
The Police and City Council both thought it was a great idea and so it proved as customers at Sing Sing, Chicago Rock Cafe, Rocco’s and Mercy were all treated to the festive tunes and many joined in with impromptu singalongs.
Val said: “We had a cheerful and friendly reaction everywhere we went. The clubbers were well disposed towards us and we had many attempts to join in, some more tuneful than others.
“It was great to be out among the crowds and bring something of the real meaning of Christmas to the streets of Norwich.”
