EU offers to quadruple your giving
Christian Aid in East Anglia is asking its supporters if they can respond to an amazing new opportunity.
The charity has won an offer from the European Union to quadruple its giving to Ethiopia. For every £1 which Christian Aid can raise for its water project there, the EU will add another £3.
The project is run by Christian Aid’s partner Water Action, and the principal aim is to provide clean water for 54,000 people.
To raise the standard of living of the whole community, it will also provide 950,000 seedling trees to reduce environmental degradation and conserve ground water. One hundred fuel-saving stoves will be distributed to reduce the demand for firewood.
The scheme will also fund 182 health workers, who will focus on reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS. They will also supply the resources and training needed to improve sanitation.
In total Christian Aid needs to raise £400,000 over three years. To qualify for matched funding, this has to be new money, raised separately from the normal Christian Aid Week collection.
For every £1 which a local community raises, the EU will add £3. A community could be defined as a group of schools, a network of churches, or a city.
