Prison Fellowship is active across Norfolk
Prison Fellowship England and Wales is represented in three prisons in Norfolk – Norwich, Wayland (near Watton), and Blundeston (near Lowestoft). It mobilises and enables volunteers from the Christian community, through prayer, practical action and value-based programmes, to support those affected by crime.
‘Seeing lives transformed’ is more than a strap line; it is the earnest desire of those involved in Prison Fellowship, which is a world wide ministry of 112 affiliated national Prison Fellowships.
Some of the ways that volunteers take part are:-
Visiting and letter writing – important ministries that require time, patience and persistence.
Helping the Chaplaincy with Sunday services and evening groups
Angel Tree. A scheme operated with the Chaplaincy to enable children of prisoners to receive presents at Christmas.
Sycamore Tree – an accredited victim awareness programme, run in prisons and young offenders institutions across the country, teaching restorative justice principles and how to apply them to their own lives. Volunteers in Wayland are required as tutors and leaders of small groups.
Prayer Groups. With 30 years of active experience, prayer is still the powerhouse of Prison Fellowship. Across England and Wales, over 140 prayer groups meet regularly to share praise, thanksgiving, concerns and guidance for the work in a local prison, for staff and prisoners.
Local Groups meet as follows:
NORWICH Prayer Groups meet on the second Wednesday of each month. Opportunity to help with Sunday Chapel services. WAYLAND Prayer Groups meet on the first Saturday of the quarter plus the last Friday of each month. Opportunity to support Sunday and weeknight groups Tue-Thurs, and Sycamore course (above).
