Norwich church launches first-ever UEA service
A Norwich church is set to launch a first-ever Friday night service at the University of East Anglia in its main congregation hall complete with lighting, sound and media rig and expects hundreds to attend.
Friday October 3 will be an historic moment for Proclaimers Church as they conduct their first service on campus at the UEA in Norwich. Congregation Hall, used for lectures, exams and graduation ceremonies will be transformed by a lighting, sound and media rig into a venue to host a truly 21st century church.
The service is set to go ahead despite worries about building work that has blocked one of the main entrances to the auditorium. A willing team of volunteers will begin setting up the campus venue from mid afternoon, later a second wave of volunteer hosts will arrive in brightly coloured t-shirts to welcome and steward the crowds anticipated for this event. Attendees will experience a warm welcome followed by high-energy music, innovative multimedia and a relevant life-transforming message.
Associate Pastor Owen Morgan said: “With this event being the first of its kind, we don’t know if 200 will turn up or if it will be 600, whatever happens, we will be prepared. What we do know is that the Friday service provides an opportunity for those that work on Sundays or travel away at weekends to attend church services.” He added: “and of course, being on campus means that for the 5000 to 6000 students who live there, getting to church is easier than ever.”
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for Proclaimers Church as they continue to create an environment where it’s easy to bring your friends to church. Since the start of the year over 100 individuals have made a decision to connect with God in services at Proclaimers and their Sunday venue is feeling ever smaller as they fill it three times every Sunday.
A fourth Sunday service is planned for later in the year but for now it is hoped that the Friday night service will open up another option for people to invite their friends to church. The event will run fortnightly during term time from October 3, and is anticipated it will move to weekly in the new year.
