24/7 prayer centre for Norwich set to launch

PrayerCandlesPlans for a 24/7 worship and prayer centre in Norwich, where Christians from every local congregation can gather, will be launched at a meeting in the city on November 12.

Behind the plans are John and Doreen Betts and Jill Gower (pictured below) from Norfolk Call to Prayer and Prayer in the Park.

In a letter to local churches they wrote: “The days in which we are living are momentous days. The Holy Spirit is moving in a new and fresh way. There is a wave of prayer which is covering the globe. The call to prayer has never been stronger than it is now.

“Since World War II we have experienced movements of the Holy Spirit through evangelism, the Charismatic movement and Social Action programmes. None of these have resulted in what we hoped would be the outcome of so much Christian work and witness. The key which brings all out work and labour of love to the point of harvest is prayer.

GillGowerWeb“Imagine a centre where people from all the different churches can come into a place of constant worship, and join in different expressions of prayer – quiet and contemplative, to deep intercession, to exuberant praise and exhortation to our King. A place where Christians from every local congregation can gather to pray. During the course of a week, a vast array of topics could be prayed for from schools, universities, hospitals, our streets and dwellings, to various ministries that do amazing work, the church in Norwich and local congregations, local and national government.... At the heart of it all would be ministering to and meeting with the Lord.”

The plan and vision behind the centre, which will cover Norwich, Norfolk and the region, will be launched at a day of inspiration and encouragement with Jonathan Oleyede who leads the Global Day of Prayer in the UK, and has initiated 24/7 prayer for London which has run for almost two years now.

“We believe that what Jonathan will share with us will enable us to move into the next step of this process,” said Jill.

The meeting takes place on Wednesday November 12 at St Luke's Church, Aylsham Road, Norwich, NR3 2HF from 10.30am to 4pm. Lunch will be provided. An offering will be taken up.

I rather thought this role was already being accomplished in the Cathedral

This is great news for the city of Norwich and surrounding area. Thank you to Jill, John, Doreen and all who have worked so hard to bring this together. I pray that many within God's family will catch holdof the vision.

I appreciate the genuine desire to serve the Lord.
Why is it though that an idea is called a vision.
Its just another gimmick, an outward act
It wont work, it never has, it never will.
Maybe If all the believers were just to have a genuine time privately with our Father intimately seeking his presence and the reality of his being through his word, the need for these gimmicks and presumptuous acts would be over, and the Lord would be simply our real person and he will have a testimony on the earth.

It is a great pity that xxx have witheld the name. Of course, we need more private prayer but also much more corporate praying. That will be in our churches and prayer meetings and many other groups of every description, formal and informal. I am just back from the old East Germany (DDR that was) and I have seen the results of prayer. We had 3 hours of worship in German last Saturday. What an experience. The Lord Bless You Richly Terence

Some of the Christian youth here in Great Yarmouth are planning the same thing, for a hub of prayer to power the various things that need doing in the borough and take the fight to the enemy.

We were led to it individually and simultaneously without one another's knowledge at first - I love it when the Lord does that - and now we're trying to work out the logistics.

It's a vision when it's God's idea, incidentally.

May God send his Holy Spirit to put this work into action. God bless you!
