Candles to remember at special Norwich service

GeoffBrendlingTaverham Evangelical Church pastor Geoff Brendling (pictured right) conducts over 150 funeral services annually and the church’s Remembrance Service is a chance to invite bereaved family members back to church.

Geoff invites family members from each funeral he has taken over the preceding year to attend and over 100 accepted his invitation this year.

Pastor Vic Ready said: “Because Geoff spends a considerable amount of time with the family of the deceased both before and after the funeral, his services are highly sort after by both funeral directors and families alike.

“Indeed, he is so highly thought of that one of the major funeral directors in Norwich now supplies all of the mince pies for TECs Carol Service, which is considerable.”

PrayerCandles“Although we always make a point of remembering the dead of the two great wars and other subsequent conflicts, we also take time to remember and pray for those who have lost loved ones during the last year.

“After Geoff’s message, which is aimed at bringing comfort though Jesus Christ and encouraging them to turn to Christ for all of their needs, all of those who have lost a loved one are invited to light a candle in remembrance of that person. Some 150 candles were lit by relatives remembering friends and family no longer with them, some lit more than one and one person lit five.”

“For those ministers who might consider doing what Geoff does, only consider this ministry if you have the time, the commitment and the love to ensure that you do an outstanding job.”
