East Norfolk date for top worship leader
Dave Bilbrough, one of Britain's best known Christian worship leaders and performers, is heading to Gorleston in Norfolk with his band for a concert on Saturday February 7.
The evening, at St Andrew's Church (7.30pm), is being organised by East Norfolk Youth for Christ - Unite, working with Churches Together in Bradwell and Gorleston.
And there will be far more than just a concert since Dave and his team will be running a series of workshops in the afternoon which will give people a chance to gain from their experience.
Workshop sessions will include practical work for worship bands and those involved with the musical side of worship. Dave will also run a session for those who lead worship in churches. There will also be a session on composition while his wife Pat will lead "percussion for fun" which can be applied both to general worship as well as children's ministry.
In addition journalist and broadcaster Tony Mallion will offer sessions on getting publicity for churches, writing for newspapers and also one on reading the Bible and praying in public called "How to learn to love the microphone"
Dave’s first composition was the classic worship song Abba Father and since then he's never looked back.
Having become a Christian in 1971, Dave found that, "Many of the hymns and songs used language and terminology I couldn't relate to". He picked up his guitar and began singing and writing songs of worship in a contemporary style.
By the age of 19 he had led worship at the Royal Albert Hall, London. He is a regular worship leader at Spring Harvest and has appeared on Songs of Praise. He has also been a judge for the Radio Two new hymn writing competition.
His latest recording project, People of Promise features Dave and his band playing live in the studio creating music that is alive, organic and with heart. Many of the songs take up some of the key themes of an album he released 25 years ago called An Army of Ordinary People.
"I felt the time was right," says Dave, "to do something that had a different edge to it from many of the current expressions of worship, so I deliberately chose a direct and rootsy style to put these songs across."
As well as leading celebrations all across the UK, Dave's travels have taken him to the USA, various European and Scandinavian countries, Malaysia, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Uganda, Kenya, Australia and the Middle East. Dave is also an author.
Tickets for the concert, available in advance or on the door, are £5. Workshops and concert £7.50 (£5 for under 18s). The workshops start at 2 p.m. at St.Andrew's.
