Christian meditation workshop in Norwich
The Norwich Contemplative Forum is holding introductory workshops on two methods of meditative prayer on February 27 and 28 with one of the UK's leading practitioners, Jill Benet.
The event will cover Centering Prayer, a method of meditation in the Christian contemplative tradition, and the Welcoming Practice, an approach for extending our prayer into everyday life.
The Friday evening will consist of an outline of the basics of Centering Prayer and the Saturday workshop will present the conceptual background which underpins the Welcoming Practice and provide an opportunity to try it out.
Organiser Liz Day, said: “The purpose of both Centering Prayer and the Welcoming Practice is to deepen our relationship with the divine by consenting to God’s presence and action in our hearts and minds and in the ordinary activities of daily life. The two combined help bring about freedom from our habitual emotional programmes and enable us to respond instead of reacting to the present moment.”
“The Welcoming Prayer is a powerful path for connecting the inner consent of Centering Prayer with the outer requirement of unconditional presence in daily life,” said Rev Dr Cynthia Bourgeault, Centering Prayer teacher and director of the Contemplative Society.
Jill Benet (pictured right) is a Centering Prayer teacher and practitioner with 16 years experience. She has studied with groups led by Thomas Keating, is a founder member of the London-based Silence in the City speaker programme and currently serves as the London Area Co-ordinator for Contemplative Outreach. Jill is a practicing Christian and has also studied Advaita Vedanta, an ancient non-dual school of Hindu philosophy.
