Norwich Christian centre appeals for secretary
Norwich Christian multi-purpose drop-in, the All Saints’ Centre, near Bonds, is appealing for a new secretary for its trustees group before the AGM on April 25 so that it can carry on its important charitable work.
Sue Olver (pictured below) is retiring as trustee secretary after 20 years of sterling work with the charity to spend more time looking after her sick husband, and at the moment there is no-one else to take on the vital role.
Administrator Trevor Scott said: “We have our AGM coming up on Saturday April 25, and it is a requirement of the Charity Commission that the charity elects a chairman, treasurer and secretary at that meeting – but at present we have no volunteers or nominations for secretary. If we can’t find someone willing to become a trustee and take on this role it means that the AGM will have to be adjourned.”
The role of a charity’s secretary is the main contact with the Charity Commissioners, and works with the chairman, Peter Threadkell, and administrator Trevor to organise and attend the trustees’ business meetings and AGM, preparing agendas and minutes to record the proceedings, and then distribute them to fellow trustees. They also deal with the centre’s staff employment matters, job descriptions, annual leave, etc. Trevor said: “We are looking for a committed Christian volunteer who is willing to join a dedicated board of trustees to be involved in the important work we have now done for some 30 years, and continue to do with the homeless and other needy folk of Norwich.”
The All Saints Centre offers a coffee bar with light refreshments, toilet facilities, a charity shop, greeting cards, new and second-hand Christian books and a lending library, a Chapel and quiet area and a base for charity flag days. It is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and Sundays 12.00 to 4pm. It also administers the Food for Thought voucher scheme to help the homeless. The centre is a registered charity and a voluntary organisation run by a small team of professional managers and staff with a daily rota of volunteer helpers.
