 Norfolk football finals action in Christian league

Norfolk Christian Youth League cup finals day saw sudden death penalty kick drama and six teams battle it out for three trophies in front of an enthusiastic crowd of around 150 at the 3G pitches at Thorpe High School on Saturday May 2.
League leaders St John’s took on third-placed Cringleford Hawks in a closely-fought and skilful Under-12 contest which ended all square at full time.
Extra time also proved goalless and the game went to the tension of a penalty shoot-out with St John’s edging out their battling opponents 4-3 in the spot kicks.
 The Under 14 league top two St John’s and St Peter’s Easton fought out a match which, goalless at half-time, was opened up with a piece of sublime skill from Hugh Gillighan chipping the keeper.
He followed it up with a second and Josh Cullington put the seal on a 3-0 victory to take the trophy.
Nearly an hour of football couldn’t separate Under-16 League title contenders Holy Trinity A and underdogs going into the game, Kings, who battled till they dropped in a thrilling and skilful 0-0 draw after full-time and extra time.
 Both sides had chances to win but it was not until the lottery of penalty kicks that the keepers were finally beaten. Trinity came out of top winning 4-3 with the final kick of a sporting and exciting contest.
