Norfolk church reveals plan to double in size
A thriving community church near Norwich has unveiled plans to the public which will see it nearly double in size.
Saint Laurence Church (right) in Brundall opened its doors on Thursday May 14 to show the public what the church is likely to look like a few years from now.
The plans show a church with large new extensions to the 750-year-old building, increasing the capacity from 100 to 180, also adding a reception room and smaller meeting rooms.
Rev Dr Linnet Smith says the church is flooded with people on key dates like Christmas Morning and Easter Sunday, and that the new facilities will allow the church to engage better with the community - with plans to extend the luncheon club and Sunday School, and to start a drop in centre for the lonely.
She said: “The church is too small for the current population of the village and it's not comfortable when it's crowded. We're a very active and lively church and we're aware we need more space.
“It's not just worship space, it's a communal space for village activity. We want to put ourselves in a position where we can be useful and contribute to the community.”
