Bishop opens life-sized tabernacle in Norfolk

BishopGraham2009: Over 60 church leaders and members of the Call to Prayer team gathered to celebrate the opening of the Tabernacle by the Rt Rev Graham James, Bishop of Norwich in the beautiful surroundings of a Norfolk garden.

Bishop Graham said, “The amount of work that has gone into building the tabernacle is astonishing as well as an amazing amount of prayer. It perfectly illustrates the concept of sacrifice which is so distant in our contemporary culture."

The bishop went on the speak about how something visual in a visual age is useful to interpret the scriptures. He said, "It is not a simple reconstruction or museum piece but there is real value in this. This is a Christian tabernacle with the power of Christ within it."

Jill Gower from Call to Prayer summarised the significance of the Tabernacle as a teaching aid.

“Every time we put up the Tabernacle we are amazed at the presence of God. People often ask, why go back to the past? but we are not looking back; everything about the Tabernacle points to Jesus. We've had some fantastic testimonies from visitors. One person last year said “it felt like I'd been in heaven all day!”. The Tabernacle here is all about meeting with God.

tabernacle2The Tabernacle is open from Saturday 23 May to Sunday 7 June in Kirby House garden, by kind permission of John and Susan Wright.  There are opportunities over the next three weeks to bring groups, congregations or for individual visits.
