Norwich URC elders learn how to listen
By Alison Davis
“Be a Better Listener” was the theme of a recently held day workshop at Jessopp Road URC in Norwich.
Some 15 Elders from the Norwich Area URCs came together to share, learn and be reminded of the need to listen in their pastoral care of the churches.
The workshop was lead by Margaret Bazely, BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/ Psychotherapist and Trainer, assisted by Rachel Penney.
During the day we experienced a number of different activities designed to help us see what makes a good and bad listener and to teach us how to improve our listening skills. There was lots of practical activities to assist in the learning.
One workshop participant said: “I enjoyed the day and found it very helpful. It was a day when I felt I learnt a lot in an atmosphere that was challenging and engrossing but in a friendly and comfortable way which caused no feelings of apprehension on my part. Thanks to Margaret and her friend it was a good experience.”
Another participant said: “I found the day uplifting, energising and rewarding and would recommend that if you are given the chance to attend one of these workshops, that you book up immediately to be assured of a place.”
