Over a hundred people from Norfolk enjoyed a series of sessions on the teachings of Julian of Norwich delivered by a Julian Monk. The talks are now available to listen to online.
During his recent sabbatical in Norwich Fr Gregory Fruehwirth of the Order of Julian of Norwich (based in Wisconsin, USA) offered a series of four sessions inviting participants to enter into Julian’s mystical awareness and explore the relevance of her wisdom teachings for our times.
Drawing on his experience of being a monk in the 21st century and insights from his extensive study of Christian theology and other faith traditions, Fr Gregory presented a simple but radical call for a renewal of the Christian contemplative way grounded in spiritual practice and surrender to the present moment.
The talks presented during these evenings – on the themes of presence, compassion, body awareness and community- are now available online on the Friends of Julian website and in from the Julian Centre (booklets and CDs).
Fr Gregory says, ‘I'm grateful for the sense of community that developed during these evenings. The graciousness of the group and our conversation helped me to articulate the experience of spiritual awakening and the depth of Julian's own insights.’
Professor Brian Thorne says, ‘Over the course of four evenings more than a hundred participants had the privilege of sharing with Fr Gregory the fruits of his own spiritual journey in the company of Mother Julian. In audio and written form these talks retain their vitality and impact, providing guidance and inspiration for anyone drawn to the contemplative path, and, for those present, a reminder of the transformational moments experienced in Fr Gregory’s presence.’
The talks can be listened to online at www.friendsofjulian.org.uk or purchased in booklet (£5) or CD (£10) format from the Julian Centre, St Julian’s Alley, off Rouen Road, Norwich NR1 1QT. 01603 767380.
Also available from the Julian Centre: text (£2.50) and CDs (£5) from this year’s Julian Festival: Catholic theologian Professor Mary Grey speaking to the title: And All Shall be Well: Julian's Theology of Hope in an Age of Violence.
