Chief engineer with something to sing about
2009: Ken Poulson, a former chief engineer who kept a fleet of 600 buses running in six counties of eastern England, was guest speaker at the FGBMFI lunch at 1pm on Thursday, August 20, at the Maid’s Head Hotel, Norwich, for people working in the city. But Ken’s interests go far beyond bus fleets: he loves sailing and composing music. In early life, he won a choral scholarship to Cambridge, where he also played rugby and cricket. Today, Ken still sings with the well-known Anglia Singers, a choral group founded and conducted by Professor Chris Green of Ruskin University.
Three years ago, Ken experienced “a spiritual landmark” while helping to lead a service at a local prison. He was baptized – along with 12 prisoners – in chilly water in a canvas rent-a-pond. “Despite the icey cold, I was smiling inside and out, as I experienced the extraordinary love of God,” he recalls. Each made a declaration of faith and there was “a wonderful feeling of oneness in Christ.”
Ken’s 25-minute talk on August 20 is one of a regular series of monthly lunchtime events organised by the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship at the Maid’s Head Hotel in Tombland.
The lunches, from 1 to 2pm, are planned largely for people who work in the city and are designed to fit into a standard lunch hour with a half-hour meal, followed by a talk.
The cost is £6 (with free parking at the back of the hotel) and all are welcome. To reserve your place, contact Robert Ross on 01603 631 050 (office number) or email robert@positive.selection.com or mwiltshire4@aol.com.
