Christian show on new mid-Norfolk radio station

WaylandStudio2009: After much hard work and support from the Watton and Swaffham community, Wayland Radio is live and full time on 107.3fm from Friday August 28, the first radio station of its type in East Anglia.

The process began around five years ago, during which time two broadcast studios have been built, the building has been refurbished and a team of volunteers has been trained and taken part in five very successful short term licences. A recent National Lottery grant paid for new transmission equipment and a bespoke aerial.

David Hatherly, Station Manager, said: “We have had so much support during the build-up to this momentous time, from local authorities, communities, organisations and individuals and we are looking forward to serving our community in a unique and special way.

Wayland Radio would like to encourage you to start your Sunday with a celebration of the Christian faith by listening to the Sunday Breakfast show with David Hatherly from 8am – 10am. David will present a mix of news, views, songs of faith and testimonies. Guest contributors from local churches will give a ‘Thought for the Day’ each week, starting with James Langstaff, the Bishop of King’s Lynn, this Sunday at around 8.30am.

WaylandLogoDavid said: “There are still many people in Norfolk who have Christian roots and although they may not be able to attend church they may well enjoy listening to hymns and songs, some of which they will remember from years gone by. Many radio stations have abandoned what would be considered a traditional Sunday Breakfast Show, but here at Wayland Radio we are keen to appeal to as many different tastes as possible.”

During weekday evenings the station will be broadcasting a wide variety of different musical genres, from 60s to Jazz and Classical to Country. On Friday evenings from 7 – 9pm, young people from the area will have a chance to play their music and explore areas of interest to them.

If you are in the Watton and Swaffham area you can tune in on 107.3fm, otherwise go to www.waylandradio.com and listen online.
