Norwich couple to host bumper BBQ for Philippines
A Norwich couple are providing a meal for up to 400 people at their own expense to raise money for people caught in the Philippines floods.
Gordon and Norma Rudge, who are members of Earlham Christian Centre, saw the story on Network Norwich and Norfolk last week about the Philippines floods. They decided to respond in a big way.
On Saturday 24 October, from 1pm to 5pm, they will be serving fish and chips, burgers (including vegetarian), chicken and sausages, hot drinks and wine, followed by apple pie and ice cream. They are providing the meal entirely at their own expense, to help Filipinos who have lost everything in the recent floods.
The BBQ is at 91 School Lane, Little Melton, Norwich NR9 3NE, and tickets are £10 for adults, £5 for students and £3 for children. They are available on 01603 812933.
Proceeds from the BBQ will be equally divided between the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for the Philippines, and the Tomama Children's Home. Tomama is a Christian project just north of the capital Manila, which was left seven feet under water in the floods. All the children survived, but the home is now waist-deep in mud. The South Korean pastor responsible for the home has sent out a special appeal for help.
Gordon is experienced at caterering for numbers, having worked as a cook in the Irish Guards.
The pictures above and below are from the home church of Monette Hastings, a Filipina living in Norwich. Although the pastors were themselves flooded out, they have launched an extensive feeding operation to help other evacuees.
