A West Norfolk church has held its own X-Factor type talent show and unearthed some hidden gems.
Thirteen-year-old singer Alisha Grimes won the first Sovereign Talent Show, held at Downham Market’s Sovereign Centre on October 31.
Alisha took home the £100 cash first prize for her performance, which was described by the judges as “stunning” and “mature beyond her years”.
Nine acts took part, including several singers, a drummer, and a short drama sketch. All of the acts were aged 11 – 15, and had qualified for the show through an audition.
The £70 cash prize for second place was won by Michael Jackson impersonator, Hudson Tong. Third place and a £50 cash prize went to dancer Amy-Lee Farrow, while beat boxer Brandon “Brandeanio” Allerdyce took the fourth prize, a £50 voucher for East Coast Music.
David Bizley, Pastor of Downham Market Christian Fellowship, which organised the event, said: “We had a wonderful evening, and I was amazed at the high standard of all the acts. We intend to do the same again next year, and aim to make it bigger and better!”
The event was made possible by a generous grant from the West Norfolk Partnership.
Daisy Line, the Partnership’s Cohesion Officer, who sat on the judging panel, commented, “I could have stayed at home and watched X-Factor, but I came instead to the Sovereign Centre, and boy did they rock me tonight!”
