Christian debt advice centre opens in Norfolk

Angela RusbridgeChristians Against Poverty (CAP), the national debt counselling charity, is opening the first debt counselling centre in Norfolk which is good news for debt-ridden families who fear they may crumble under the financial pressures of Christmas and the recession.

The centre is opening in Aylsham in partnership with Aylsham Community Church so individuals in the North Norfolk area will now be able to take advantage of the charity’s free, specialist advice.

Angie Rusbridge, Centre Manager, said the service, at the Jubilee Family Centre, Norwich Road, had come at just the right time. She says, "People really start thinking about money in December and January. That's when the pressure really hits. It's a time of worry for a lot of people."

The free service will not only offer advice and support but will also take a hands-on approach by setting budgets and negotiating with creditors. Debtors can call the charity, which has over 120 centres across the country, to make an appointment for Angie to come to their home and talk through their problems. She gathers information about their finances and a specialist debt advisor draws up a budget to ensure they can pay essential bills like food and heating and organises repayment schedules.

Angie, a trained accountant, says, “It’s a brilliant service. We see people in their own homes because that’s where all their paperwork is and often we can do something immediate and practical to help. We offer first class debt advice as well as being evangelistic. The majority of people we deal with aren’t Christians. We always offer to pray with people on the first visit and 90% of them say yes. If people say they don’t want any Christian input then we will respect this and provide them with the debt advice. We are just happy to bless people.”

Matt Barlow, UK CEO, Christians Against Poverty, said: “We are thrilled to open our latest centre in North Norfolk. We aim to bring hope and a free, practical solution to the problem of debt, whilst helping individuals through the often traumatic consequences, which can include divorce, going hungry and even attempted suicide.

"Angie Rusbridge will be a fantastic asset to us as a charity, as we seek to help even more people across the UK and we have every confidence that the local community in North Norfolk will soon feel the benefits of having a CAP centre on their doorstep.”

Angie, pictured above, works within a 30 minute drive of Aylsham, which includes North Walsham, Coltishall, Wroxham, Reepham, Cromer, Sheringham, Holt and the surrounding areas. She still has some appointment slots available before Christmas. She says, “The worst thing someone in debt can do is stay silent, so I would urge anyone in financial difficulty in the area to contact me.”

To make an appointment with Angie call Christians Against Poverty on freephone 0800 328 0006 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Practical help always a great thing.

According to the teaching of the prosperity gospel,CAP should not even exist.
According to this teaching, poverty is a sign of a curse or Gods displeasure..

According to the teaching from the Lord Jesus in the New testament, the poor will always be with us.
Whether we are rich or poor the temptation to look at our circumstances and interpret them as a sign of either Gods blessing or displeasure is a mistake.
The subtlety of this practice is to distract the believers to look at themselves and their environment and to look at ways to improve it and themselves according to some questionable standard. If rich, to look at themselves and believe that success and wealth is a sign of Gods blessing causing them to become proud and puffed up.
Certainly for the children of God our environmental circumstances may be used even arranged by the Lord to teach us that nothing except the Lord himself is reliable, and that we should count on him alone and not from things (blessings)financial or otherwise from his hands.

The greatest blessing for a believer is to be in the Lord`s presence with his smile upon us.
Rich or poor, in good health or not, with your family or mourning a deep loss, He is available and closer than our breath. When we call on his name in sincerity and truth he will come in.
He does not promise to remove our problems but he does promise to be with us in our problems if we ask .

Once his disciples were in trouble, the wind and the waves blew against the boat threatening their lives, Jesus was with them but he was asleep. They woke him and he rebuked not only the wind and the waves but also the disciples for their lack of faith.

23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"
26He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"

At times when we feel we are drowning looking at the storms in our lives, the wind blowing contrary to us impeding our course and the water threatening to sink our boat and ending our journey we should be encouraged that with Christ In our boat we are going to be well and finish our course.
Having his presence and his word we are more than conquerors.
We should just invite him into our boat.
