Norwich church and pub join in Christmas spirit
A Norwich church and a local pub have joined forces to bring the Christmas spirit to their local community.
The Whalebone pub (pictured right) and Christ Church, New Catton stand at the foot of Constitution Hill in Norwich, and when a new pedestrian crossing was put in place, it effectively created a natural bridge between church and pub.
"Someone decided to put up a sign in the middle of the crossing, directing pedestrians to the church at one side of the road and the pub at the other side," said the Revd Margaret Whitaker, Associate Priest at Christ Church.
"We contemplated a photo of the clergy and the publicans on the pedestrian crossing - Beatles 'Abbey Road' album style - and then wondered how we might join forces to provide something for the community this Christmas."
As a result, locals are invited to carols and hot mince pies at the Whalebone at 8pm on Thursday December 17, in what it is hoped will be the beginnings of a long and happy relationship between those two stalwarts of the community - church and pub.
