Norfolk Cursillo works at deeper spiritual life
An internationally acclaimed weekend course designed to help Christians work towards a deeper, more effective, spiritual life, is being held in Norfolk from February 18-21. in the community of the church. Barbara Harrold, Lay Director of Norwich Anglican Cursillo, explains all about it.
The name Cusillo, pronounced 'kur-see-yo derives from the Spanish "Cursillo de Christiandad" meaning 'short courses in Christian Living'.
Cursillo began on the island of Majorca in 1949 when a group of men began to pray, talk and work together to find a way to bring people closer to Christ. It soon spread to mainland Spain and today Cursillos are held all over the world in both Anglican and Roman Catholic Diocese under the direction of their Bishops.
Cursillo came to the Anglican Church in the UK in 1981 and now operates under the care of the British Anglican Cursillo Council (BACC) in more than 30 Dioceses throughout the UK.
Cursillo is an internationally acclaimed course designed to help Christians work towards a deeper, more effective, spiritual life in the community of the church. It is not a retreat. The weekend includes a daily Eucharist, meditations and a series of short talks and discussion groups about the fundamentals of Christian life.
Norwich Cursillo is held at Belsey Bridge Conference Centre, Ditchingham, from 6pm on Thursday until approx. 5pm on Sunday. It is important that you attend the whole weekend. The Norwich Cursillo community is determined that financial considerations must not prevent anyone from attending the weekend.
Cursillo is one of God's gifts, available to all regardless of ability to pay. However, we do ask that, if at all possible, you make a contribution of £160. Cursillo offers an example of true Christian living and an atmosphere of trust and love. We are looking forward to sharing with you this wonderful experience of the grace of God. We ask nothing more of those who attend.
What God wants you to do with the rest of your life is between you and him. You may feel, as I did, that Cursillo should be part of my life and that is why at the first ever Norwich Cursillo, gifted to us by Leicestershire last February, Bishop Graham James commissioned Rev Jane Atkins (Cursillo Spiritual Advisor) and myself, to lead Cursillo forward in Norwich and Norfolk. This we did by setting up a secretariat and worked towards encouraging Christians to enjoy the wonderful experiences this weekend can provide.
One of our aims is to encourage people to get active within their own church, and to serve others as Jesus wanted us to.
Our three day weekend is February 18 – 21, 2010
We are quite happy to come and talk to any Anglican group, be it clergy, church congregation or prayer group.
