Norfolk churches invited to host Godspell
A theatre company is looking to work with churches in the Norwich area to put on performances of the musical Godspell in January 2011.
The touring theatre production company will be in Norfolk in early January 2011 and they are seeking out local venues such as churches and community centres who would be interested in hosting a production of this unique play in its 40th anniversary year.
About Godspell
Godspell is loosely based on the Gospel of St. Matthew but it is not in essence a religious play. Its intention is not to promote the gospel, or the story of Jesus Christ. It is a play that can appeal to people of any denominational faith or none.
It is primarily about the formation of a community that follows and adheres to a basic moral code about being true to one’s God (or beliefs) and about treating others as we would like them to treat us. This is shown through a disorganised group of individuals who come together; form friendships; have arguments; and finally succeed in forming a tightly-knit close community who believe in spreading a humanitarian message to others.
It is a relatively light-hearted and humorous tale that recreates many well known stories through a variety of forms but that ultimately has a moral twist to it.
