Norwich Christian youth project expands
2010: East Norwich Youth Project (ENYP) has recently recruited two new part-time employees to continue its youth programmes and outreach in the East Norwich area.
Kate Doran-Smith, has successfully led ENYP's dance group Dance Off! as a volunteer for the past 18 months. Dancers have performed at fetes, community events, thebandwithnoname event at Norwich Cathedral back in October, and at various churches within the local area.
Over the past year Kate has also been studying to achieve her VRQ3 in Informal Education, and is keen to meet young people on a one-to-one basis to offer them support and mentoring.
Kate says “I am really excited to start employment as a part time youth worker for ENYP. I have been involved with many aspects since it started in 2007, but now I will be able to think more about improving and extending current projects and looking at starting some more.
"The current projects I lead are 'Dance Off!' which continues to flourish and the Young People's Forum, which started last September and is coming on really well. Holiday events such as Equip will also now have the chance to grow and I am looking at training to become an 'Arts Award' advisor and offering local young people a nationally accredited course.”
Also joining the staff team is Ellie Payne as a trainee youth worker, who will study towards her entry level into youth work in the coming months.
Ellie says "As part of my role I will be overseeing Franky's and Download, two youth clubs on the Heartsease estate, and offering support to Cookies, a youth cafe in Thorpe Hamlet, and Base, the Christian Union at Thorpe St Andrew High School. I will also be taking part in entry level youth work training and I'm really excited to have been given this opportunity to learn new skills. I know that I'm going to really benefit from the experience and training ahead of me."
Project Director of ENYP, Danny Doran-Smith, said “We’re excited to see the team expand with more opportunities to employ staff members. It’s an exciting time for the project and for the work we do for young people in the East Norwich area”.
Any future employment opportunities to join the ENYP will be advertised on the ENYP website, where a full list of activities and groups can also be found.
