Your chance to help Delirious make history

HistoryMakerAn online campaign is underway to get Christian rock band Delirious? To the top of the music charts for Easter Sunday with its popular song HistoryMaker and Christians across Norfolk have been backing the bid.

Over 44,000 fans are backing the bid which will raise money for charity and was inspired by the fact that the power of social networking managed to put Rage Against The Machine at the top of the charts last Christmas.

Lucy Paculabo Mhondera, from Kingsway Music, said: “This got a few fans thinking: why not get a profoundly Christian song in the news and up the charts at Easter?”

In fact, two Facebook groups sprung up at the same time independently of each other, both passionate about seeing Delirious? back in the charts. Now both those Facebook groups have merged and the count of fans is over 46,000 and rising

Lucy said: “After a few discussions with Furious Records and Kingsway Music, we’re pleased to announce that two versions of the HistoryMaker single will be available for download only between March 28 and April 3. Fans will be able to choose between the original studio version or the live version taken from the band’s up and coming release ‘Farewell Show’, due out April 19.

“Delirious? have always been about the fans – and that will never change. So we’re pleased to do all we can to support them as they continue to wave the flag for a generation. We wish the fans every success.”

Delirious? will be donating all their profits from the UK downloads to charity projects supported by CompassionArt - Creating Freedom from Poverty www.compassionart.tv.

Earlham Christian Centre pastor, Paddy Venner, said: “I think good Christian music needs some exposure – there are literally thousands of contemporary Christian artists out there who get no exposure in the UK but are household names elsewhere, so let’s give Delirious? a push and make some history.”

I first saw Delirious perform in 1997 on the Norfolk Showground, when I was 14. It was my first Christian gig and it was a most memorable experience. I had never heard of the band prior to walking into the cattle shed that was the venue for that evening. The atmospere was electric and I recall being surrounded by a crowd of young people passionately declaring in song that they were not ashamed of the gospel and that they wanted to be history makers, with the fire of God and the truth in hand. There were also times of devotion as we sung the name of Jesus, and listened as the words of the Lords prayer echoed in the darkness whilst the beam of light from a spotlight drew all attention to a solitary cross on the stage.
Throughout my teenage years the songs of Delirious allowed myself, and many others, to express our feelings towards God and our desire to serve Him alone. We watched as Delirious released music into the mainstream media and made infrequent appearances on television. As I moved into youth leadership myself, I took members of my youth group to a number of Delirious gigs, so that they could see that a Christian life can be lived and expressed passionately.
Now in my 20's I have learnt that we should never put our hope in Christian 'celebrities', and as such, the success or failure of this latest facebook campaign will not withold the purposes of God. However, this campaign encourages me, in that it shows that there are still many Christians who want people to hear about the hope that God brings. This may also cause people to regain a hunger to fulfil their ambition of being a History Maker. In addition, this is an opportunity for people who do not know God to hear about Him, and plant a seed that could one day grow, bringing them life that can only come from God.
I for one have purchased the single, and would be very happy to see the campaign succeed as, after putting down their instruments following 19 years of service, a number one single would be a nice way of saying to the band "Farewell, and thanks for inspiring a generation".
