Labour launch election pledges in Norwich
Norwich's two Labour candidates unveiled the party's election pledges in one city church hall and will set out their views in another on April 14.
John Cook, Labour candidate for Norwich North and Charles Clarke, candidate for Norwich South (pictured right), stood together at St Mark's Church Hall, Lakenham, as part of “team Norwich” to reveal their election pledges to the people of both constituencies they will be hoping to win votes from in the coming weeks.
Both candidates have vowed to deliver: a skilled Norwich with a growing economy; a cleaner, greener, connected Norwich; a safer Norwich; a fairer Norwich; and a learning Norwich.
Mr Clarke said he wanted people to see what Labour “has done and will do” for both the city as well as the rest of the country.
He said: “I want us to be proud for Labour and what Labour is about. Norwich has been a fantastic success story over the past 13 years. Labour has a strong, strong record in this city of winning public investment and private investment so we've got more jobs and economic prosperity.”
A Meet the Candidates event, organized by the Norfolk and Norwich Christian Socialist Movement will take place at Norwich Central Baptist Church in Duke Street, on Wednesday, April 14, at 7.30 pm.
The three Labour Party candidates for the Broadland, Norwich North and Norwich South constituencies will speak briefly, and then answer questions on the theme "The Unequal Society and the Common Good".
As the CSM organizers state: "By restricting speakers to members of one Party, we aimed to encourage speakers to respond from their own ethical standpoints, rather than indulging in the usual point-scoring and criticism of opponents." Questions preferably in advance please to: andrewdickie@cooptel.net. Admission is free. All welcome.
