 West Norfolk church hustings draws big crowd
By Angus MacQueen 2010: Around 160 people, ranging from teenagers to old age pensioners, attended a hustings for the parliamentary candidates standing in the South West Norfolk constituency, held on Sunday April 25 at Downham Market’s Methodist Church.
The hustings featured representatives of five political parties, namely Lori Allen (Green candidate), Stephen Gordon (Liberal Democrat candidate), Peter Smith (Labour candidate), Elizabeth Truss (Conservative candidate), and Dennis Crawford (on behalf of Kay Hipsey, UKIP candidate, who was unable to attend because of a family illness).
Questions covered a variety of issues, including the economy, immigration and electoral reform.
 The hustings was chaired by Martin Chilvers, a local Methodist and Head of History and Politics at Downham Market High School.
It was convened by Rev Douglas Morris, Chair of Downham and District Churches Together, which organised the event.
