Norfolk Christian charity offers India work

HopeCommunityTrust22010: A Norfolk Christian charity working in rural India is offering two week placements for retired or holidaying teachers who would like to come to India and work in their children’s home and school.

For those who love to teach, love kids, don’t mind basic living and would like to take a holiday with a difference this could be the chance for you.

The Hope Community Trust is linked with the Grace Christian Fellowship based in Mile Cross Lane, Norwich. It is a small Christian Charity working in Andhra Pradesh, India.

The school caters for approximately 100 children, 40-50 of whom live in the children’s home on the campus site. The school is located on the edge of a small rural village called Kuntinivasala where most of the inhabitants are poor rice farmers.

Pastor Nicky Eatalapaka says, "Our English medium school seeks to give an opportunity to some of the poorest children to be educated in an English medium school something they would not otherwise have access too. An English medium education then gives them a fluency in English that will make a huge difference to their future. Resources are very limited although we do have a small library now and six computers. We are also planning a science and arts room as well for the coming new term starting in June.

We have very few resources but the kids are great and so eager to learn. Getting good teachers prepared to come and work outside the city is difficult but we find those who come for a few weeks make a tremendous difference to the children’s English."

HopeCommunityTrust1A two week stay costs £350 which covers collection and return from Vishakhapatnam airport and all food and travel during the stay. Accommodation is included but is very basic. There are western bathrooms for visitors and access to the internet when power supplies allow although it is slow. Any profit money made by the charity is used entirely for the work and improvement of the school standards. There are no admin staff or budget so all monies go directly to feeding and educating our children. The cost of your flight to Vishakhapatnam is not included.
