Norwich MP takes part in young people's forum
2010: A Norwich Christian project that encourages young people to contribute their ideas and feedback at regular forums welcomed Norwich North MP Chloe Smith to a recent meeting.
East Norwich Youth Project (ENYP) now works with over 400 young people within its weekly programmed youth clubs, activities and holiday events; and regular contact is also made with hundreds of young people through schools work and the work of the ENYP Street Pastors team.
ENYP promotes the mental, spiritual, moral, social and physical development of young people, through a range of activities from creative programmes, youth clubs and forums to those that create opportunities to explore more of the Christian faith.
One of those groups is the Young People’s Forum which provides the opportunity for young people to get more involved with the future development of ENYP by contributing their ideas and feedback.
Danny Doran-Smith, Project Director of ENYP says “The Forum seeks to strengthen and empower both the individual young people and the group as a whole, as we equip them with the social skills to volunteer for the project and gain the confidence to voice their thoughts, issues and opinions on being a young person in society today”
Kate Doran-Smith, ENYP Youth Worker and Coordinator of the Young People’s Forum, says “The YPF combines an equal amount of educational sessions and social sessions to give a small group of around 20+ young people the chance to meet, build relationship, trust, confidence and maturity. The aim is to better equip them in their transition from adolescence to adulthood. Many of those that attend already volunteer for ENYP and give their time and energy into ‘giving back’ to their community, through a wide range of clubs and activities.
“Last month, Chloe Smith MP took time out of her busy schedule to come and meet us at the Young People’s Forum. The evening was informal, interactive and very informative as young people asked questions, raised issues and voiced opinions on everything from Witard Road Potholes to the treatment of ex-servicemen.
“Feedback at the end of the session proved that everyone felt they had learnt something and Chloe was very appreciative of the invite and opportunity to get to know some of the young people in her constituency.”
