2010: A
Salvation Army choir performed a special concert at a
south Norfolk care home where one of their former members has just turned 101.
Dorothy Phylis Le-Marie, known to her friends as
Dorrie, was treated to a morning of joyful tunes and readings by the
Home League Singers at
Hethersett Hall Care Home.
Dorrie had sung with the choir for 10 years so her fellow singers decided to put on a one hour performance as a present to celebrate their friend's landmark day.
The birthday girl, who only left the group two years ago, said: “It was a joy to see them. I was in the choir for 10 years and I can still sing some of the songs.”
Major Joyce Bentley, who leads the group based at St Giles in Norwich, said all the singers missed Dorrie's contributions: “I think this is lovely for Dorrie because it's an achievement to have reached 101,” she said.
On turning such a grand age, Dorrie said: “You don't feel as well as you like and I must admit I'm getting old but I'm well enough to enjoy life and this is a wonderful home to be in.”
