Down in the jungle at Eaton churches
2010: St Andrew’s church, Eaton, was turned into a jungle and filled with fun as children from the local area and as far afield as Kent enjoyed drama, craft, games, singing and Bible stories during the first week of the school summer holidays.
55 children joined enthusiastically into activities at the church-run ‘Jungle Jamboree’ Holiday Club for 5-11 year olds. The club concluded with a lunch for parents, children and church helpers, with pizzas which the children had made, and a special all-age service on Sunday 1 August.
“The children in my group have enjoyed it all; they would come running in each morning and have been a delight from beginning to end!” said Jessica Pitt, one of the 30-strong team from the Eaton churches, Christ Church and St Andrew’s.
“Reponses to our questionnaire suggest that parents are very appreciative of the event,” said the Rev Dr Patrick Richmond, vicar of Christ Church and pantomime dame in the drama.
“My thanks go to everyone from both churches who helped to make ‘Jungle Jamboree’ a really happy and special time for so many children,” said Holiday Club leader Andrea Woods.
St Andrew’s is launching a monthly ‘Messy Church’ starting on Sunday 26th September at 3.30pm on the third Sunday of the month. “Messy Church will follow a similar format to the Holiday Club and is for all ages,” said the Rev Phil Rodd, Vicar of St Andrew’s.
