Sun, sea, sand and scripture on Norfolk coast
Scores of youngsters have been enjoying sun, sea, sand and scriptures on the beach at Cromer in North Norfolk thanks to the popular Scripture Union Cromer Beach Mission.
The mission, which has been running annually for over 125 years, has been a favourite since Edwardian times and, for two weeks every August, holiday visitors and families from the town have an exciting opportunity to learn about the transforming power of God’s love.
The diverse programme includes competitions, games, music, dances, family events and Bible studies.
Around 50 volunteers have been helping over 140 young people aged from 3 to 18 to enjoy age-related activities in local venues from 10.30am or on the beach at 11.45am until August 13.
Mission leader is Hannah Beal, 28, who said that while volunteers were church-goers, more than half the children taking part were not. And the aim was to try to introduce them to their own local churches after the Mission.
“The message is the same as it ever was,” Hannah told the EDP. “This year’s theme is encounters, about people who met Jesus and how it changed their lives.
“One 11-year-old girl from the Mob group told me she wanted to come to the mission the next day but was having to go on a trip to Pleasurewood Hills, which shows how much fun it must be.”
