Rural dean makes a splash in North Norfolk
The Anglican vicar of Cromer, Revd David Court has been appointed as a rural dean in North Norfolk and will be collaborating with around 30 churches in the area.
David, 52 will be taking on the new challenge which involves representing the views of the clergy to the bishop and in turn communicating the bishop's views to the clergy.
David said, "My hope while rural dean is simply to be a link between churches, working together with other local leaders and congregations to see if there are ways we can work together and support each other in the mission God has given us for this part of his world."
The role of the Rural Dean is one of influence, initiative and pastoral care within their deanery. David has identified the number of historic churches in the area as a major challenge at the same time as ensuring the people of the area are being served by the church.
He said: "I’m excited by the opportunity to seed some ideas and see if there are ways for the Anglican churches to work together for this area."
David moved from St Catherine’s Mile Cross in Norwich to Cromer in 2003, is married to Ann. The couple have three children, Jonny, Matt and Naomi.
He has recently taken up surfing after being inspired by two recent members of his ministry team, youth minister Ed Land and curate David Frederick. David said, "I’ve been here seven-and-a-half years and it has taken me that long to get into the water. It’s great to see Ed and Fred inspired by something. I thought I could have a go at it. “I’m still at the stage of splashing around in the water, though!”
