Huge knitted Xmas tree on show in Norwich

Knittedtree

2010: An amazing 15ft Christmas tree produced by a 600-strong army of knitters has gone on display in the Forum in Norwich this week to raises money for a city care home.

Over £1,700 has been raised so far from the 15ft entirely knitted Christmas tree made from donated leaves and decorations which will be on display in The Forum in Norwich from 19 - 28 November.

The idea for the project came from Ann Meijer whose daughter is a resident at John Grooms Court, a residential care home in Norwich for 20 young disabled adults.

Ann said, "We have had a fantastic response for this project with more than 600 knitters from all over Norfolk and beyond sending in over 4,600 green squares for leaves and nearly 2000 tree decorations and we have already received over £1,700 in donations. The money raised will make a real difference to the lives of local people with disabilities."

The tree will be in The Forum from 19th to 28th November and then in December it will be in the Hostry at Norwich Cathedral.

Ann

What an amazing project. I heard you talking about it on Radio Norfolk and I really couldn't contemplate how you could do it!

What a magnificent achievement and doesn't it look great. I hope you can also use it in future years! What about it a slow UK tour... each Christmas time?

Best regards

Heather Nunn
