Norfolk Christian youth volunteer opportunity

Three Norfolk Christian charities have teamed up to offer a great opportunity for young people in and around Norwich.

The Matthew Project, Norwich Youth For Christ and YMCA Norfolk recently announced the launch of Praxis, a three-month full-time volunteer scheme which gives young people the chance to gain foundational skills for working with young people, and develop character and integrity.

Praxis is about learning by doing, and it's designed to give experience of working in all three organisations, from running drug and alcohol sessions to helping in school sessions on self esteem or bullying or running Christian clubs and assemblies. The programme is designed to be good fun, but will put participants in good stead for whatever they do next.

Nick Blanch, YMCA Norfolk Schools and Community Manager, said: “Many young people are initially unsure about what they want to do after they finish their education and are looking for ways to explore those first steps. With increased competition for jobs and rising youth unemployment, it means more young people will be disillusioned with their aspirations and dreams. We want to offer something that will help them develop their own skills and confidence as well as inspiring them as they make the transition into adult life.

If you are between 16 and 25, have no plans for three months from September 2011, are willing to apply yourself and you have an interest in working with young people, then find out more by taking a look at the Praxis Role Description on www.norwichyfc.co.uk  and click on Praxis.
