Easter candlelit service in East Norfolk church

AcleEasterSunriseAn ecumenical gathering in East Norfolk celebrated Easter with the help of candles in a church with no electricity and then moved outside to watch the sun rise.

The 11th century church of St Mary's Fishley situated in iddylic farmland just outside Acle in East Norfolk hosted an eccumenical service as the sun rose on Easter Sunday.

The service was attended by a 50 strong congregation of Methodists, Catholics and Church of England members, all reading from the service sheets by candle light - not really for any symbolic reasons, but because the church literally has no power supply!

The service started at 5.30am with Rev Martin Greenland, Rector of St. Edmunds Church joined by Rev Heather Sorrell, Minister of the Bridewell Methodist Church in the village of Acle and Roman Catholic Deacon, Rev Peter Glanville (a former BBC Radio Producer) of St. Mary's, Great Yarmouth.

After the church service everybody filed outside to sing hymns and take the bread and wine with the rising sun in the background.
