Royal wedding a chance to share the love

PhilipYoung300Norwich vicar Rev Philip Young urges us to give Prince William and Kate Middleton a day to remember.

What wedding present do you give to the couple who already have everything? It’s no good sending them any of the usual gifts. They don’t need a new set of saucepans.

But you could send them a message of love. You’ve seen the catalogues. In the Christian Aid one you can buy a goat for £15 or 80 nutritious meals for £10 or even a fishing boat in Burma for £150. You could celebrate the love between William and Catherine by supporting your favourite charity on their wedding day.

Right now there is love in the air. We could start a world revolution of love on the Royal Wedding day by seeing how much we can give away to charity. It will help, a little, to restore the balance between rich and poor and show that we care. We’ve been given a holiday to celebrate and we could make it a holy day by making love the centre of our lives.

Right now there is also revolution in the air. In Libya and Syria there is civil war. In many countries there are people wanting to move from dictatorship to democracy. They want freedom from oppression. The desire for freedom is good. However the violence that it is creating is bad. Very bad if you are caught up in it. People are hurting. People are dying.

RoyalWeddingFlagsWhat we need right now is a revolution of love. A revolution with violence is a nasty and brutal affair and the result of bombing Libya is far from certain. Violence tends to breed more violence and more problems.

The revolution of love needs to begin right now. You can be part of it by sending a message of love to William and Catherine. Support your favourite charity on their special day.

I have just run the London Marathon with a tap on my hat for WaterAid. Every day 4,000 children in our world die from a water related disease. I am passionate about bringing fresh water and good sanitation to people in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region. I am continuing to wear my tap hat, as I would love to raise £100,000 for WaterAid. So far I have raised £8,844. I would love you to sponsor me on the Royal Wedding Day.

You can do this by going to www.virginmoneygiving.com/reverendphilip or send a cheque made payable to 'Water Aid' to the Philip at St. Thomas' Vicarage, 77 Edinburgh Road, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 3RL
The Water Aid website is www.wateraid.org

Maybe you know someone who is raising money for a good cause. Please support them and make the Royal Wedding day one of loving and giving.

A day for all of us to remember.

A day for a revolution of love.
