Christian leader urges Norfolk to unite in prayer

Jonathan Oloyede1On Wednesday 4 May, Jonathan Oloyede, who heads up the Global Day of Prayer in London, addressed a meeting of leaders at the House of Prayer, Fishergate, jointly hosted by Transforming Norwich, Call to Prayer and Unite.

Jonathan has a wonderful testimony as a convert from Islam who challenged God in 1986: “You will be my God if you talk to me every day”, and that has happened ever since.

The heart of Jonathan’s message was that that God is preparing people for a spiritual awakening, and many prophetic voices have been declaring this for our nation. This will happen when we are in unity and in alignment with Him. It is time for the Church to rise up in the UK and for a hunger for God to develop in people, for the best is yet to come.

God gave Jonathan a vision; he saw groups both small and large meeting in all sorts of places to pray the Lord’s Prayer and when they prayed they were bathed in light. This is one of the challenges he issued: Set your mobile phones for midday and pray the Lord’s Prayer wherever you are.

On the day of the royal wedding, 24 million people in this country and 2 billion worldwide heard the word of God and witnessed a very Christian ceremony. On that day we saw the best of British culture, in an abbey which is 1000 years old. God is prepared to go down deep and reach those ancient roots of Christianity which are in the DNA of our nation.

God seems to be stirring up people to pray. Recently, 2000 young people came to Parliament Square to pray together. We are very active and busy but we need to be ever more prayerful. Jonathan felt the Lord say to him, “Don’t start anything new - they are praying already – they just need to be united.”

“Find your own creative way to tell people it’s time to pray – it doesn’t matter how you do it, please don’t do nothing but do something!”

Global Day of Prayer leadership have been seeking God as to what they should do at Wembley this year – whether to call a big gathering or a meeting for leaders. They believe God is saying to go for 1000 leaders on 17 September – church leaders, youth leaders, ministry and marketplace leaders – from around the nation. This unity amongst leaders will prepare the way for a full-scale meeting to follow in 2012 when the rest of the church will come in behind them, and it needs to be that way round.

On the strength of this, it was agreed that we would believe for at least one coach from Norfolk, which Jill Gower offered to organise through Call to Prayer. Those leaders who are interested should contact the House of Prayer on 01603 920074 or email admin@call2prayer.co.uk .

The same evening, Jonathan spoke to a large and vibrant gathering at Norwich Family Life Church, speaking of his conviction that God is going to move among the young people in this nation. Also, God is looking for those who will say, “Here I am, Lord”. He encouraged each person to be individually responsible for their walk with God, and to seek Him for themselves rather than relying on others to do it for them.

The day ended with a powerful sense of hope and encouragement to persevere in prayer to see God’s redemptive purposes for this nation fulfilled.
