Colour focus at Norfolk church flower festival
A World of Colour is the theme for an annual church flower festival in Sheringham, North Norfolk which attracts thousands of visitors each year and raises around £12,000 for the church and local charities.
The annual flower festival of St Andrews Methodist Church, Cromer Road, Sheringham takes place from Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 July 2011.
The festivals have been running for over 40 years and over the years they have grown significantly in both quality of exhibits, size and attendance to become arguably the best festival in Norfolk.
They are now not only a major event for the church but also a significant event in the annual diary of many visitors to Sheringham some of whom plan their holiday around the festival date. They even attract several coach parties from as far afield as Bedford!
The Festival annually attracts well over 3,000 visitors and raises around £12,000 for church funds with a donation to a designated charity, which this year will be The Ladybird Pre-School Nursery, a local nursery that needs funding following a break in and vandalism last year.
Every year the floral arrangements of the festival are designed to a specific theme. This year’s festival theme “A World of Colour”, will be depicted by more than 30 large stunning arrangements. Throughout the festival background music, played mainly by organists, adds to the ambiance of the event. On Sunday afternoon, at 3 pm the Marsham Handbell ringers will be coming to provide their beautiful, unique music to the festival for the first time.
Entry to the Festival is free, the money being raised totally from donations and from proceeds of catering and from the many varied stalls run by church members, including plants, books, arts and crafts, souvenirs and gifts, jewellery, Christian bookstall, Traidcraft stall, bric-a-brac, a raffle and various quizzes.
Catering forms a major part of the festival and light lunches, cream teas and an extensive choice of cakes will be on offer.
Opening times of the festival are Thursday & Friday 10am to 7pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday 12 noon to 6 pm.
The church is wheelchair friendly and has disabled toilet facilities.
