Norwich Christian charity show a big hit
Around £620 was raised for local Christian causes at a Norwich church variety performance that included a British juggling champion, professional storyteller and breathtaking musical talent.
A variety show was held on Saturday May 7 at Norwich Central Baptist Church in Aid of Norfolk Street Pastors and the work of the Blessing Van with Carrie Sant and City Saints in Action.
Under the hand of skilful compere Danny Harrison the evening was a great success raising approximately £620.
The opening performance was Melody Adams accompanied by Emily Robinson singing Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked. Later in the evening she gave a breathtaking rendering of "Far From the Home I Love" from Fiddler on the Roof.
The audience was treated to a great yarn from professional story teller Tilly the Talespinner warning on the dangers of gossip!
Esther Malcolm accompanied and joined by Simi Agunbiade then gave two beautiful duets; Simis’ own arrangements of "The Water is Wide" and "Before the Throne of God Above".
A real highlight of the evening was a performance by junior British juggling champion Johnny Malcolm, sponsored by Oddballs, who wowed the audience by juggling seven balls and five clubs at different times whilst spinning himself round and juggling behind his back.
In the second half, egged on by compere Danny, Johnny attempted his first public performance of six clubs and succeeded to tumultuous applause!
Joe Betts sang two great Blue Brother numbers “Flip Flop Fly” and “Jail House Rock” and had the audience dancing in the aisle.
During the evening Gail Halley spoke about the work of the Norfolk Street Pastors and two housing support worker spoke about how the blessing van and team help with things that statutory agencies are not able to do.
The evening concluded with songs from the musical “Godspell”
“Prepare ye the way of the Lord” and "Day by Day".
Funds were also substantially contributed to by the efforts of Gemima Malcolm aged 11 who baked a great assortment of cakes for the interval refreshments.
The organisers would like to thank all those who helped with this event. It is hoped that these shows will become a regular event. If you have a talent you would like to use for the Kingdom of God then please get in touch on carrie.stchap@yahoo.com
