Singing scholarships offered at Norwich church
A Norwich church with a strong musical tradition is welcoming applications for Choral Scholarships which are available from September 2011.
The magnificent medieval church of St Peter Mancroft in Norwich city centre is delighted to offer Scholarships to young singers between the ages of 16 and 25.
Twelve Scholarships are offered, and from September there will be vacancies in all voice parts (SATB), as several of the current Scholars are set to graduate and to move on to other things.
Director of Music Jody Butler says ‘We will be sad to see some of our Scholars go, but we are delighted at the progress they have made whilst with us, and look forward to hearing about their move on to new and exciting things. We are very lucky to be able to offer Scholarships to young singers, to help them gain excellent experience as church musicians. It also means we have a lovely choir to lead the music at our services. We are excited at the prospect of welcoming some new singers to the group.’
The Choral Scholars rehearse weekly and sing for services once or twice every Sunday, and for occasional special services. The Scholars also give concerts as part of Mancroft Music, the church’s free concert series, which runs twice a year. The Scholars each receive £500 p.a., and many of them choose to use this to fund private singing tuition.
If you are interested in being a Choral Scholar at St Peter Mancroft, or would like more information, please contact the Director of Music, Miss Jody Butler, on 01603 610443 or music@stpetermancroft.org.uk.
St Peter Mancroft also offers Choristerships, has a Girls’ Choir, a mixed-voice choir St Peter’s Singers, and offers Organ Scholarships.
