New team leads Christian league into season

NCFLlogo250The Norfolk Christian Football League has appointed a new team to lead it into an exciting new season, with new teams set to join and a brand new website set for its official launch. Keith Morris reports.
Mike Culwick, from Heartsease Churches FC, has been voted in as Chairman (with Youth Leagues oversight), and Jim Green, from Norwich Vineyard FC, has been named as Vice Chairman (Adult League oversight). James Leck is the new Adult League Secretary.

Stepping down will be former chairman Gary Ryan and long-standing league servant, Tim Stapleford, who will both still be involved with the League in other roles.

Also added to the team is the new position of General Secretary, which has been filled by YMCA Norfolk Heath and Well-Being Development Worker, Jessica Tyson, taking over from Katharine Hume who will become the new league Respect Officer.

Jess will be working for the League for one day a week, based at the YMCA Norfolk offices at Trowse and is the main point of contact for league matters at t: 01603 630049 ex 129 or  jessicatyson@ymca-norfolk.org.uk

Mike said: “I became involved in the Christian League when Tim Stapleford started the youth league in 1995, and thought this would be a great opportunity to witness to young people on the Heartsease estate. Football is the means to the end, the end being sharing the Good News of Jesus to everyone involved with our football teams.

“A few years ago we lost two young men, one 17 and one 18, both connected to the Heartsease Football club and this really brought home to me how important our message is.

“Churches please give your full support to the teams you sponsor, I mean your physical support, where would Jesus be on Saturday mornings? In the early morning prayer meeting praying for those lads, 'what are their names now?' No, he would be out there getting to know them, showing them how much he cares for them.”
