South Norfolk church appeals for tons of tools

toolsLast year South Norfolk residents brought more than a tonne of tools to a Wymondham church’s harvest service to be donated to developing countries, and this year they are appealing for even more tools.

On Saturday 8 October, Wymondham Baptist Church will again open their doors to collect unwanted tools. They are gathering them to help people in developing countries become self-sufficient with a regular income.

Working along with Tools With A Mission, the church is accepting most types of tools which could be refurbished to a high standard, to help people become self-sufficient with a regular income. They are interested in tools such as carpentry, motor mechanics, building, electrical and plumbing, engineering, electric power tools, sewing machines, laptops, flat screen computers, sewing and craft items, garden tools, educational text books, adult mountain bikes, manual typewriters, motor lawnmowers, strimmers, and chainsaws. They will not be able to accept electric hedge cutters or lawnmowers.

‘It’s not just the adults we’re collecting for, though,’ commented Tracy Kenny, who leads youth work at the church. ‘We’re also interested in any stationery for children to take to school to help in their education.’

We’ve heard that South Norfolk needs to improve our recycling rates, but clearing unwanted items out of your garage and getting them refurbished for re-use is a great step to help another community. The sharing and building-up of neighbours is what harvest is really all about.’

If you have any tools that you would like to donate then please bring them to Wymondham Baptist Church in Queen Street on Saturday 8 October 10am-4pm. The church’s Harvest Festival Service will follow 9 October.
