Prayer space oasis at Norfolk Christian centre

Horstead prayer space1In addition to the action-packed challenges offered at The Horstead Centre, a Prayer Space is now open for visiting groups to enjoy a peaceful moment to reflect and connect with God.

The Horstead Prayer Space has given the Horstead Centre a special dimension and offers a contrast to all the physical, mental and social challenges already available and helps to remind our young visitors of our Christian roots and celebrate what makes Horstead so special.

The four prayer space zones:

  1. Sorry Zone - featuring a prayer fountain with large pebbles where children can learn how to say sorry or forgive someone. There are magna doodle boards available for children to practise wiping the slate clean and making a fresh start.
  2. Thank you Zone where children think about all the wonderful people and things in their lives like families, friends, teachers or shoes on their feet, bread on their table clean drinking water that they are grateful for. It is a great opportunity to say thank you to God in their own way by writing little post-it notes of thanks.
  3. The Please Zone is an opportunity to ask for help for themselves or for another person. We have a little family tree and children can write the name of someone in their family who needs God’s help.
  4. In the Big Question Zone there are opportunities to think about God and what questions they would like answers to. They can jot down their questions and attach them to the bubble tower and watch, wait and listen for the answers.

Horstead prayer space2In the midst of our bustling activity centre we have tried to create an oasis of calm and a space for our young visitors to be still and peaceful for a while and to take time out for prayer, sometimes for the first time. Every journey starts with a first step and the step into the prayer space maybe the start of something great.

Since opening in June this year we have had lots of schools and youth groups visiting and using the space going away determined to set up their own prayer spaces.
