New Norfolk festival set for Cathedral hostry
A new event for Norfolk, the Hostry Festival runs from 21 - 30 October in Norwich Cathedral and features theatre, music, radio and film performances.
A new event for Norfolk, the Hostry Festival brings together talented people, both amateur and professional, who all share the passion for creating work of a high standard.
Artistic Director and festival founder Stash Kirkbride said, "This county is brimming with what I call ‘adventure capital’, ie interested companies and individuals. My job, and joy, is to programme and commission the events that bring these companies and individuals together to create lasting work."
The festival this year follows a highly successful production of The Night of the Iguana performed at The Hostry last year, and there are plans to make this an annual event.
The week starts on Friday 21 October with a specially commissioned radio play Inspector Rufus Rank Investigates by Eve Stebbing. There will be a special guest appearance by festival patron, Helen McDermott.
The Hostry is the perfect setting for the performances throughout the week of romantic comedy The Rainmaker by Richard Nash. The story is of a family down on their luck. With no rain for months on end and cattle dying, all that can be done is to pray for a miracle. Then one night, quite out of the blue, a miracle happens for everyone, even Lizzie, who had given up on just about everything.
The final day of The Hostry Festival 2011 opens with The Brook Street Band. Then follows a staged reading of the passion play Father & Son, after which Louise Priest (BBC Radio Norfolk) hosts a discussion.
Father & Son: Son & Father has been performed as a rehearsed reading in churches and venues throughout the UK to great acclaim, and this will be its debut in Norfolk. The actors inhabiting the roles of Jesus and God will be real-life father and son Peter Ellis [pictured] and Chris Ellis, who will work together for the first time.
