The world is ripe for a revolution of love
Norwich vicar Revd Philip Young's message for Remembrance Day of 11/11/2011 is that the world is ripe for a revolution of love.
Dictators are wary as the Arab Spring is challenging their power.
Those occupying outside St Paul’s, and many places worldwide, are out to challenge the great injustice of the increasing gap between rich and poor.
Financial markets are in turmoil as the capitalist system fails to deliver a fair distribution of wealth.
The planet groans under the strain of human activity and increasing population.
A revolution is needed in order to save our life support system.
We need a revolution of love.
Violent revolution will only make things worse.
Violence is part of our problem, not part of the solution.
We need to eliminate war and poverty and to put our energies into loving the planet.
A revolution is needed to eliminate war as soon as possible.
We must beat our swords into ploughshares.
We must turn the armed forces of the world into a humanitarian force for good.
They could help bring clean water and sanitation to all on our planet.
They could help bring shelter and aid to those caught up in natural and human disasters.
There is no reason why we cannot work to eliminate war by November 11, 2018 – exactly one hundred years after the First World War – the war to end all wars.
What more meaningful tribute to those who have laid down their lives in war than to work for a world without war?
Revolution is in the air.
Let us turn the world upside down by our love.
Gandhi and Martin Luther King have shown us just how powerful the force of non-violence and unconditional love is.
The time is now for ordinary people to demand that our leaders turn away from greed and violence.
Let all intelligent beings turn away from hate, prejudice and greed.
In wisdom let us follow the way of love, knowledge and self-giving.
Let us dedicate ourselves to a revolution of love.
To loving each other and our planet. |
