Resources to help churches and communities
Latest resources highlighted in the Community Mission newsletter include grant funding, conferences and photography competition.
FUNDING
Charities that work with disadvantaged children and young people in the UK under the age of 25 can apply to the Ironmongers’ Company for a grant of up to £10,000. The average grant awarded is £4,000 and particular focus is given to projects that enable children in primary school to develop a strong foundation for the future. Examples include projects that teach parenting or life skills, address behavioural problems or promote citizenship. The next application deadline is 31 January for their March committee meeting. Complete an application form online or contact Ironmongers’ Hall by phoning 020 7776 2311.
The Garfield Weston Foundation makes grants to UK charities, including churches, and its focus is education, arts, health, welfare and the environment. It funds diverse work by churches and does not have a funding limit for applications. There is no application deadline and grants are made for one year. Average grants are between £3,000 and £20,000.
EVENTS
God of the poor is the New Wine conference for those ministering in urban priority areas (inner city and estates). Taking place at Hothorpe Hall from 28-29 February 2012, the conference will be led by those experienced in this ministry, and will feature talks, practical seminars, worship and ministry. Book and pay before 6 December for £105. For more information phone 0845 437 8656.
STORIES AND RESOURCES
How well-known is your project or charity? In a recent survey, when asked to name a local charity, only 51% of respondents were able to do so. Christmas is a great time to publicise your events and activities and the profile could lead to new volunteers and financial support. Not got the time or skills? Community Newswire can help. It’s a free service run by the Media Trust that helps charities get their stories in national and local media.
Inside Out is a brand new six-session course produced by Evangelical Alliance, Livability and Tearfund designed to help transform your church and equip you to love your community. It consists of a DVD and free materials at Inside Out.
What does kindness look like to you and those in your community or project? Glimpses of Kindness is a photographic/art competition designed to highlight and inspire kindness organised by the Humanity Project. The deadline to submit images is 31 December. Why not run it locally and have your own exhibition before selecting some entries to send? For more information phone 01628 660665.
