Sacred moments created at Norwich Cathedral
2011: An evening service entitled Soul Circus at Norwich Cathedral on December 10 combined music, video and scripture in a fusion of ancient and modern style to create a unique atmosphere to celebrate the Eucharist.
The service started at 5.30pm at Norwich Cathedral on Saturday 10 December with candlelight, incense, ancient prayers, video, poetry and ambient music. It is for young people, youth groups, individuals and families and the idea is for ancient to meet modern in this creative expression of the Eucharist.
People were invited to come and respond, and consider questions such as what is sacred?, What does it mean to participate in the Eucharist? How is ritual relevant? Soul Circus used the language of today to enter the greatest of all mysteries. People encountered God and each other in the Holy performance that is communion.
Robin Vincent created the music for Soul Circus. He has used lots of different sounds, instruments, beats and styles all mixed together to create the right sort of atmosphere. There will be meditation materials and vocal tracks as well as the chance for people to sing along. Robin emphasizes that it is not a performance and the people present will have an input into how the service will evolve.
Robin says, "It's interesting - and a bit scary if you're involved in it! It'd exciting, joyous and I can't wait to get there and start things off!"
