Team focus: ENYP U12
Jess Tyson interviews Danny Doran-Smith, manager of the new ENYP U12 team.
What church is your team connected to? East Norwich Youth Project (ENYP) which was officially launched in September 2007 as a charity to oversee and develop youth work within the east of the city of Norwich. The project is supported by 12 local churches, which are part of several different denominations. They provide a wide range of support which enables us to promote the mental, spiritual, moral, and physical needs of young people.
Why did you choose to play in the NCFL? What difference does it make?
ENYP is a Christian Charity. We looked at NCFL mission statement, aims and objectives, and talked to Mike Culwick (Chair of NCFL). We felt it complimented ENYP values, and mission statement. Being part of NCFL not only provides a good Christian framework; it also helps support and develop our work and service within the communities that we seek to serve.
How or why did you become team manager?
Having had a background of lower level league football (semi professional) it has given me some experience of working with football teams and an understanding of the games fundamentals. Becoming a manager or coach was a natural progression with my time in the game.
Who is your sporting hero and why?
“When I run, I feel God’s pleasure,” are the words of the young athlete called Eric Liddell. Eric’s outstanding skills for running began when he was still in his teens. He was a great missionary and Olympic champion. I admire this man because he was not only a great athlete, but because of the way he held so strongly to what he believed to be right!
In our newsletters we like to catch up with a different NCFL team to find out a little bit more about them. If you would like your team to be included please email Jess Tyson on secretary@norfolkcfl.co.uk
