Dereham church appeals for teachers of English

NancyKrois314A Mid Norfolk church, which runs classes to help migrant workers to learn English, is appealing for new teachers to help ensure the future of the scheme.

The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes, which take place twice weekly at Dereham Baptist Church, serve migrant workers from Portugal, Romania, Poland, Brazil and the Dominican Republic.

The vacancies have arisen following the departure of two teachers who have decided to concentrate on other commitments. Most recently Nancy Krois (pictured), who had been teaching Advanced level classes for four years, left at the end of the Christmas term.

Nancy had started teaching the church-based classes at very short notice to fill an urgent gap in personnel. Lead Tutor, Ann Walker, paid tribute: “Nancy was God’s provision. She was there just at the time she was needed, and has been there - reliable, supportive and a fantastic teacher – ever since.”

The church offers an honorarium to qualified ESOL teachers who can join the team.
