Acle churches model Christian unity

AcleChristiansTogether314Churches within an East Norfolk village have been setting a great example of Christian unity by prayer walking round the village’s fire station, primary school and other amenities.

On the afternoon of Sunday 22 January, Acle Churches Together held a prayer walk stopping at significant community locations to recognise and pray for the work done by staff within each building. Over recent years the walk has become an annual event in celebration of the ‘Week of Prayer for Christian Unity’

The walk was led by Church of England Rector Rev Martin Greenland, Methodist Minister Rev Steve Cullis and Roman Catholic Deacon Rev Peter Glanville. Members of the local churches joined together to recite prayers outside the village branch of Barclays bank, the fire station, primary school, recreation centre, health centre and Herondale Care Home.

John Kenny, a participant on the walk, said: “This is an excellent example of ecumenism for other villages to follow.”

The walk started at St Edmunds Church and concluded at Acle Methodist Church where further prayers were recited followed by refreshments provided by the congregation.
